Be Careful of the Negatives!
Want to move on in life? Then the time has come to substitute the negatives in your life with the positives. Here I will show you how to take the negative de-motivators in your life, and replace them with positive motivators; this in turn will have the effect of increasing your morale, ambition and productivity.
Many of us go through life unaware of the amount of negative influences in our lives. Our senses are bombarded every day with negative messages from the media, the people around us, and the most destructive of all from ourselves.
The first step in replacing the negatives with the positives in your life is to make a decision to start identifying the negative messages and ways to replace them with positives messages, actions or thoughts. You must make an active choice to focus on the positive things in this world.
First, begin by drastically reducing the amount of news you take in. Many people begin their days with the news, and most of the news is bad news, murders, crashes, crime, death disease, etc. By the time you have finished your coffee in the morning, you have had enough bad news to last you a week. Does all this news makes you want to spring in your car and greet the day with joy, and a motivated attitude? I think it is quite the opposite.
How about the way we end the day? Many of us like to watch the news before we go to bed, there’s another big dose of negative information just before we sleep. No wonder people have trouble sleeping. The mood you are in before you go to sleep normally carries through to the morning, so you are setting yourself up for quite a glum and sad day.
It isn’t necessary to watch the news, believe me you will get along better without it. You need to replace the news with things like motivational CD’s or DVD’s, read motivational material, things that will uplift your spirit, motivate and give hope. Put some headphones on and listen to uplifting music for an hour or two, the effect upon your mind and spirit will astound you.
Reading empowering books help you to realign your thinking, and direction, it is a fantastic way to recharge, strengthen and empower your life. Look out for success stories, biographies of successful people, etc and find what works for you.
The next step is to limit the amount of TV you watch, did you know that a recent survey has shown that 78% of people who watch TV. are not interested in the program they are watching at any given time. So, watching TV is probably not doing anything constructive for you, and is probably stealing time that could be used for more exciting and empowering activities. Prime time is when most people are watching TV, make it YOUR prime time by switching off the TV, and move that time to move your life ahead in a positive way.
Next you need to limit your exposure to what you read, magazines, tabloids, and publications that are generally full of gossip, and negativity about people and the world around us has an extremely negative effect on our thoughts and perceptions of people and life. Once again, replace these magazines with material that will empower and excite you, you’ll be surprised at the positive results you will achieve.
Next, you will need to limit your exposure to negative people. Most people have no idea how draining and tiring being around negative people can be. Negative people pull you down; they drain your spirit, emotions and mind. You must work on removing them from your life to the extent that you can.
Never get involved in complaints, gossiping or pity parties at the office, even if they come your way. look for people who will support you and that you feel good being around and use them to replace the negative people around you.
The most damaging source of negativity is we ourselves. Many of us generate large amounts of negative self talk which our minds accept as truth, this results in life retardation and hopelessness. We spend time on our shortcomings, our problems, our failures; we spend a good amount of time predicting bad news for ourselves, generating lots of fear and worry, while also undercutting our abilities to rise to the challenge of new things, etc.
Begin to focus on the positive aspects of you. What are your unique strengths, what have you accomplished in your life, how different are you to others, how smart you are in your area of expertise and knowledge. Use visualization and affirmations to build positive images of yourself achieving the things you want, use these to replace the negative images.
It’s also very important to set some time aside during the day to think about the good things you have in life right now, a simple thing as being thankful for the shower in the morning, knowing that there are many people who do not even have running water. This attitude of gratitude will generate an incredible amount of positive stimuli that will last all throughout the day.
Don’t forget to take care of your body. Eat healthy foods, cut out bad eating habits, and get regular exercise, this will boost your self-esteem while building strength and endurance, so you can accomplish more.
Helping other people will also help you in feeling better about yourself, but remember you can’t give what you don’t have, so it is important to replace negative self talk with positive self talk. You will also get good feedback from others which in turn will reinforce your positive self image.
Always remember what you put in is what you get out, so make sure that it is good that goes out.
By replacing the negatives in your life, with positives, you will make yourself and probably the world around you a better place. You will feel better mentally and physically, you will be more empowered to accomplish the many things you wanted to.
Nothing in life happens without action, and if you want to move on in life, start now by taking action in replacing negatives with positives.
